Launch of the Saturn V

Engineering at its finest, and possibly its most expensive: Apollo 11 Saturn V Launch (HD) Camera E-8 (by Mark Gray). The complexity of the launch operation is beautifully illustrated in this video of the launch of the first mission to the lunar surface. The Saturn V was retired in 1973, concomitant with the elimination of the Apollo program, illustrating an important but overlooked aspect of engineering: someone has to pay for it.
